How RPL works for University Entry
All Nations University – South Africa use RPL to determine if the candidate accumulated knowledge is equivalent to formal matric requirements.
Depending on your background, this process can result in two outcomes:
Access/Placement: Gaining entry to your desired undergraduate degree or diploma programme despite not having a matric certificate or formal exemption.
Exemption/Credits: Being exempted from specific modules inside a qualification based on previous courses or extensive workplace training.
General Requirements
While policies differ per institution, applicants generally need to meet these baselines:
Age: You must typically be 23 years or older (often referred to as mature age entry).
Work Experience: Usually, 3 to 5 years of relevant working experience in a field related to the qualification you want to study is required.
Incomplete Studies: If you have an incomplete certificate or a lower-level qualification, your relevant experience will also be factored in.
Typical Steps in the RPL Process
Application: Apply directly to the university's admissions or RPL department (not via the Matriculation Board).
Consultation: The candidate will be guided on the required documentation, which usually involves completing a Portfolio of Evidence (PoE) (a collection of certificates, job descriptions, references, and written tasks).
Assessment: An academic panel assesses your PoE, and you might be required to write a competency test or attend an interview.
Registration: If deemed competent, you will be issued a status or access letter allowing you to officially register for your degree.
